IPAC OSUN'S CONTROVERSIAL CONDUCT TOWARDS GOVERNOR ADEMOLA ADELEKE: A CALL FOR REFORM

 

In a recent statement issued by the Association of Progressive Political Parties in Osun State (Osun APPPS), Chairman Wole Adedoyin shed light on the actions of the current leadership of IPAC Osun, detailing their mocking, humiliation, and opposition towards Governor Ademola Adeleke before and after the last Osun Governorship election. The APPPS publication criticized the current IPAC leadership for their self-centeredness, bias, and lack of integrity. Rather than effectively fulfilling their role as mediators between the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and registered political parties, they have failed to achieve anything substantial during their tenure. Instead, IPAC Osun became a tool for the former ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), to undermine the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which is now in power. In stark contrast to the present situation, the previous leadership of IPAC Osun, led by Prince Adesoji Massilo Adeleke, Dr. Idowu Omidiji, Comrade Adebayo Bello, and Reverend Olatunji Popoola, did not engage in such behavior. Their principles and ideology remained uncompromised. In the past, if there were any press statements attacking opposition parties, they were issued by individual political parties or partisan political groups like the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) or the now-defunct Alliance of Collaborating Political Parties (ACPP).

It was both surprising and disheartening to witness the current IPAC Osun leadership attacking Governor Ademola Adeleke in the run-up to the Osun Governorship election, using the name of IPAC. Not only was the governor criticized, but he was also subjected to ridicule by this so-called IPAC leadership. The exploitation of IPAC for personal gain should be strongly condemned by the council's national headquarters and INEC. Dragging the PDP and its candidate through the mud before an election should not go unpunished. Ironically, the party and candidate who were mocked, attacked, and humiliated have now emerged as the elected Governor of the State. The congratulatory message sent by IPAC to Governor Ademola Adeleke after his victory at the Supreme Court is highly ironic, considering their previous actions against him and his party. The evidence of their misconduct can be easily found online.

It is imperative for the national level of IPAC to exercise oversight over their state chapters, particularly in Osun. The national body should conduct an audit of IPAC's activities in Osun State. Similarly, INEC should closely monitor IPAC's activities in different states. Numerous releases from IPAC Osun have not only mocked Governor Demola Adeleke but have also attacked and humiliated him. The Osun APPPS advises the current Chairman of IPAC to utilize the remainder of his tenure to rectify his wrongdoings.

ALHAJI SAKARIYAU LAYONU WAS NEVER BANISHED FROM EDE WITH ORO - OSUN VOTERS LEAGUE

 

Osun Voters League has condemned a video claiming that Alhaji Sakariyau Layonu was banished from Ede with Oro. This is a false claim and we are issuing this press release to set the record straight.

Alhaji (Chief) Hon. Saka Layonu was a well-respected member of the Ede community and an active participant in the development and growth of the town for many years. He contributed significantly to the growth of the town through his philanthropic activities and community service.

The Ede community has no record of Alhaji (Chief) Hon. Saka Layonu ever being banished. This is a baseless and false claim that has no basis in fact. It is an attempt to tarnish the reputation of Dr. Ismail Abiodun Layonu and his family.

The Ede community has always been one that values unity, respect, and brotherhood. The members of the community have always worked together to achieve their goals and to make the town a better place for everyone.

All you need to know About Alhaji (Chief) Hon. Saka Layonu

 

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ALHAJI (CHIEF) HON. SAKA LAYONU

 

The late Alhaji (Chief) Hon. Saka Layonu was among the few budding politicians that rose to fame immediately after Nigeria attained its independence from the British Colonial Masters in 1960. His political career began in Abeokuta Grammar School, Abeokuta, his alma mater, when he was made the Secretary of the Zikist Movement, a nationalist group in the vanguard for Nigeria's independence. 

 

In the elections that ushered in Nigeria as a parliamentary entity modeled after Westminster democracy, Chief Layonu was elected into the hallowed chamber of the Western Region Parliament as a Honourable Member representing Ede-Ejigbo North Constituency from 1960-1966.

 

Chief Layonu had also held political positions which boosted his clout as a formidable grassroots politician in Osun Division of Western Nigeria. He served as the Political Officer of the defunct National Council of Nigeria Citizens (NCNC). His party, the NCNC, again presented him as a candidate for election into Ede District Council Chairmanship election in 1962. Chief Saka Layonu was overwhelmingly elected and became the Chairman of Ede District Council.

 

The late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, National President of the defunct Action Group (AG) having  discovered Hon. Layonu as a politician with  intimidating 'electoral  credentials' personally invited him to AG and appointed him as the AG Zonal Secretary (Osun Division) .

 

In 1963, Hon. Saka Layonu was appointed as the Minister of Economic Planning and Community Development by  Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola the then Premier of Western Region. In the following year, he was redeployed to the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs as a Minister. He thus became the first illustrious son of Ede to appear in the 'World Map of Nigerian  Politics' in the First Republic.

 

Alhaji Saka Layonu who also doubled as the Otun Are Omo Timi of Edeland and Agba-Akin of Ido Osun used his vintage position to bring good governance and dividends of democracy to the people of Osun generally, regardless of their  social,  political and economic leanings. Indeed, the truth must be told that Chief Layonu was a moving spirit behind the establishment  General Hospital, Ede and Cocoa Industries, Ede.

 

He also secured Government Scholarships for brilliant but indigent students of Ede origin and others to study in higher institutions of learning in Nigeria and abroad.

 

Chief Layonu was indeed, an astute politician with a strong political base. He was a founding member of the defunct Nigeria National Democratic Party (NNDP). He was an executive member of the erstwhile Nigeria National Alliance (NNA) during the First Republic. He was a founding member of defunct Nigeria People's Party (NPP). He was a founding member and national scribe of the Great Nigeria Peoples Party (GNPP) and Governorship flag bearer of the party in the old Oyo State in the 1983 polls. He was also  a member of Nigerian Political Observers Group for the United States of America Elections in 1982.

Chief Layonu was genuinely  involved in the agitation for states creation that he was made the Secretary of the Central Yoruba State Movement in 1975. He was appointed by former President of Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, as member, Presidential Committee on States Creation in 1982.

 

Chief Layonu was a Honorary Citizen of Shelby County, Tennessee USA. He was a caring  family man who was blessed with many children.
